Sail north from Luxor on a Nile cruise ship to Dendera, visit the Temple of Hathor, then cruise back with lunch on board and afternoon tea at sunset.
Board the cruise ship at its Luxor dock at 7:00 am and set sail north along the Nile. Settle in on the sun deck and watch river life drift by: villages, farmland, fishermen and palm groves, a view of Egypt you simply cannot get from the road. You arrive at Dendera at about 11:00 am.
Your Egyptologist leads you through the Temple of Hathor, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. See the hypostyle hall with its Hathor-headed columns and restored painted ceiling, the narrow crypts, the rooftop chapels and the Mammisi (birth house), and hear how the temple was used for festivals of the goddess of love and music. Then return to the ship for lunch on board.
Sail back south towards Luxor through the afternoon, relaxing on deck as the light softens. Afternoon tea is served at around 5:00 pm as the sun sets over the West Bank, and you arrive back at the Luxor dock at about 7:00 pm. This day cruise runs every Monday and Thursday.
