A full day on Luxor's East Bank: Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple and the Luxor Museum, with lunch at a local restaurant.
Start the day at Karnak, the largest temple complex of ancient Egypt, dedicated to the god Amun. Walk through the Great Hypostyle Hall with its 134 columns, see the obelisks of Hatshepsut and Thutmose I, and visit the Sacred Lake. Your Egyptologist explains how generations of pharaohs added to the site over some 2,000 years, turning it into the religious heart of the empire.
After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Luxor Museum on the Corniche. Its collection is small but outstanding, including the statues from the Luxor Temple cachette, the royal mummy of Ahmose I and finds from Tutankhamun's tomb, all displayed with care and good lighting.
End the day at Luxor Temple in the heart of the city, where colossal statues of Ramesses II, a granite obelisk and the colonnade of Amenhotep III stand beside the Abu el-Haggag Mosque. The temple is at its most beautiful in the late afternoon light, making it a perfect final stop before you return to your hotel.
