Ride a traditional horse-drawn carriage through Luxor's back streets and local markets to see everyday city life beyond the tourist areas.
Your horse-drawn carriage, known locally as a calèche, picks you up at your hotel, with one carriage for every two guests. Your driver heads away from the main tourist streets into Luxor's residential neighbourhoods and back lanes, where everyday city life plays out around you: tea houses, bakeries, craftsmen at work and families chatting outside their homes. The route includes a stop at the local fruit and vegetable souk, full of colour, noise and the smell of fresh herbs, and a cold soft drink, before you return to your hotel after about two hours. Late afternoon, when the streets come alive and the heat eases, is the best time to go.
