Head north from Aswan to the riverside double temple at Kom Ombo and the huge, almost complete Temple of Horus at Edfu.
Drive about an hour north from Aswan to Kom Ombo, a riverside temple unique in Egypt because it is perfectly doubled, with twin entrances, halls and sanctuaries for two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder. Your Egyptologist shows you the carved temple calendar and the famous relief of ancient surgical instruments, then you visit the small Crocodile Museum, which displays mummified crocodiles found nearby.
Continue north to Edfu and the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved temple in Egypt, completed in the Ptolemaic period. Walk through its towering pylon, open courtyard and dark, roofed halls to the granite sanctuary, and see the long reliefs of Horus defeating Seth on the enclosure walls. You then drive back to Aswan, arriving in the afternoon.
