Take a boat to the Temple of Kalabsha, moved to safety beside the High Dam, then see Nubia's history at the Nubian Museum.
After hotel pickup, drive to the High Dam and take a motorboat across to the Temple of Kalabsha, the largest free-standing temple in Nubia. Dedicated to the Nubian sun god Mandulis, it was built in Roman times on the site of earlier temples, then moved here in 1961–63 to escape the rising waters. Explore its courtyard and halls and the nearby rock temple of Beit el-Wali, with vivid reliefs of Ramesses II.
Return to Aswan for a guided tour of the Nubian Museum, opened in 1997 and one of the finest museums in Egypt. Its galleries trace 5,000 years of Nubian history, from prehistoric rock art and pharaonic statues to everyday objects and a reconstructed Nubian house, and explain the international campaign that saved monuments such as Abu Simbel, Philae and Kalabsha.
