Skip the long desert drive and fly from Aswan to Abu Simbel in under an hour to see the colossal rock temples of Ramesses II and Queen Nefertari.
Your driver collects you from your hotel and takes you to Aswan International Airport for the short flight of about 45 minutes to Abu Simbel. If you have a window seat on the left, watch for views of Lake Nasser stretching into the desert. This is the fastest and most comfortable way to reach Abu Simbel, and it avoids the long pre-dawn drive across the desert.
Your Egyptologist guides you around the Great Temple of Ramesses II, fronted by four seated colossi of the king about 20 metres tall, with halls carved with scenes of the Battle of Kadesh. Next door is the Temple of Hathor and Queen Nefertari, one of the few Egyptian temples dedicated to a queen. Learn how both temples were cut into blocks and rebuilt on higher ground in the 1960s to save them from Lake Nasser.
After free time for photos by the lake, return to Abu Simbel airport for the flight back to Aswan, where your driver takes you to your hotel or cruise ship. Please note that prices increase by 50% on the Sun Festival days, 22 February and 22 October.
