Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Coptic Monasteries & Shrines of Luxor
Discover the Christian heritage of Luxor with a guide who knows its churches well. Start at Deir el-Shayeb, north of the city near the airport, then cross to the West Bank to the Monastery of the Martyr Tawadros, set behind Medinet Habu. Finish at the shrine of the martyr Wanas in the city. Along the way, learn how early Christian communities reused ancient temples and tombs as churches and hermitages, and how Coptic traditions remain part of daily life in Upper Egypt today.
Day 2: Monasteries of Armant & Esna
Head south of Luxor to the Monastery of St George at Al-Rizeiqat, near Armant, one of the most important Coptic pilgrimage sites in Upper Egypt, and the nearby Monastery of the Two Saints. Continue to Esna to visit its historic church and the Martyrs' Monastery on the desert edge west of the town, with its old mud-brick buildings and wall paintings. Drinks and snacks are provided on both days, and you return to your hotel each evening.
